Meeting Summary

I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend. I wanted to give a quick synopsis of our last meeting.

During the Council meeting, we were joined by Ms. Somerville and Mrs. Gannon, thank you both for coming out:

- Ms. Somerville gave a synopsis of the Moving Up with Literacy program that we sponsored this year and it appears that all the staff that have used it are very enthusiastic about having the resources available. This is good news as the program is costing the Association a significant amount of money.

- Mr. Barkley reported on some news from the CBE, the budget is forefront and center still and the affect on Haultain is yet to be determined but we will likely have a staff reduction and some classroom size increases - stay tuned.

- The teaching of a second language at all CBE schools is no longer mandatory, Haultain is looking for input from parents about this issue and will likely be offering some form of language class in the future but it won't be the same as it is now.

- There will shortly be enough smart boards for all classrooms at the school.

- The school will be the beneficiaries of the new STOP (Short Term Observation Program) initiative. This group will come into the school and be resident for 5-6 weeks providing assessment help for students with mild to moderate special needs.

- Some clarification for the LAWN network was provided, we were reminded that its not a WIFI hotspot and was still for the exclusive use of students and staff within the school.

- Feedback was provided regarding the swim programs new venue, with all reporting positive comments (except for the low temp of the water)

- Members are reminded that our AGM for both the Council and the Parent Association is in September; we will be voting on the positions of Chair, Vice Chair, and Treasurer (PA).

- Our casino proceeds were announced as $66, 104.22. Thanks to all who helped.

- Thank you letters from room 11 students who went to Outdoor School were read, it was clearly a very successful outing.

- Our treasurer gave a quarterly financial report covering the first quarter of 2011.

Thank you to all who came out to the meetings, please plan on attending the next to last meeting of the year on May 12 at 6:30 in the library.
