Community Engagement Plan Meeting

Hi Parents - Trevor, Shane and I attended the CEOP (Community Engagement and Operational Planning) meeting this evening, which was aimed at getting parent input on CEOP's proposal to close one of three kindergarten to grade 6 schools in our vicinity: Deer Run, Queensland, or Haultain Memorial.

The school put forward for closure was Queensland Downs - the reasons for which being varied - to get full information on the CEOPS proposal, we highly recommend you visit the Student Accommodation section of the CBE website, and view the presentation. The full presentation will be made available online by the end of the day Tuesday September 15th, and contains the pertinent information which was considered in CEOP's recommendation. Once Parent queries are harvested, a 'Frequently Asked Questions' section will be added, so it's important to submit yours.

It's very, VERY important to remember that at this stage, IT IS STILL JUST A RECOMMENDATION, and is subject to change based on parent involvement and feedback.

Without feedback from the parent community, without parent views and opinions being heard, this consultation process is irrelevant. Your input, with the view of developing a successful learning environment which suits ALL children in our learning area is very important.

Your comments can be submitted in many ways - you are free to leave a comment on this blog, submit questions on the CEOPs 'Feedback' page on the CBE website, or contact your area trustee.

Please comment, write, get involved, and come to Parent Council/Association meetings. Our goal is to maintain the fantastic culture of learning that has been developed at Haultain - and your involvement is the key to achieve that goal.

  2. Thanks Nick - great post. We are definitely at the beginning of a long journey. To emphasize what Nick has said - we need to stay involved and active, the CBE is still open to the consultation process and anything can happen. So stick with us, stay informed, ask questions, leave comments, contact our Trustee, most of all - stay open to anything that will help provide the best education for our kids.

  3. I must say Iam relived to hear this. We moved to Queensland for Haultain Memorial School, Out of all the communitys we could havepicked or schools we could have had our children go to we picked Haultain. We were told by many people what a great learning enviorment it had and how help full the staff is. We have not been disapointed with our choise to move here and send our kids to Haultain. The idea of lossing such a great school has weight greatly on my familys mind. This is a first step to keeping our wonderful teachers and our fantastic school.

  4. Thanks Nick for keeping us well informed and very quickly too! So as you said this is the time we must continue to advocate for our school, I know we will write to our trustee and continue to be an active part in our school and our community. We all knew this day was coming and it will bring about a huge change next year that I am sure we will all welcome with open arms, as it is and always will be about our children.
Haultain is a fantastic school with an amazing work ethic and values it brings home for our children, and the parents, I am glad of the decision, and hope it does not change.

  5. Thanks Nick for the update. As Shane suggested our work as involved and informed parents doesn't end here. But it won't. I know the reason for our successful school is the group of people who work together tirelessly for it!

  7. Yes thank-you Nick for the update and for everyone's involvement. When Chloe was ready for school I had a choice of enrolling Chloe in either Haultain Memorial or Queensland Downs. I am so happy that I made the decision of Haultain. It is the best school for my kids and I have been so impressed with the staff that works there. The parents that I associate with are amazing. I feel so blessed to be apart of such a great school. I am so glad that we are making steps to keep our school! Haultain is the best!

  8. Thanks Nick for the timely update I am sure it was on everyones minds. Like many in our community we had the choice between the 2 publc schools in Queensland and chose Haultain after much research and have never regreted our choice. Thanks again to the staff at Haultain and all the volunteers which make it such a special school and part of our community.

  9. As residents of Diamond Cove, my family is pleased with the recommendation by CEOPS. Haultain is an excellent location for our community, as it is within a reasonable walking distance. Not to mention, we have been so happy with the families, staff and facilities at Haultain. We hope Haultain continues to shine as a brilliant school for many years.
